One user account to rule them all!
Hi,
So you probably noticed by now that you have two accounts with the division.
A Microsoft 365 account, which is <username>@lrcsd.ca and a Google Account which is or will soon be <username>@lrcssd.ca.
Just so you know, we will be moving towards integrating all accounts into one, you will simply use your Microsoft account to log into everything. You will only need to remember one!
So why are we doing this?
This will simplify things greatly for both students and you, and save the technology department a great deal of resources and time as well.
Right now when an account is created it goes like this.
Staff account is created in PowerSchool. ==> imported into active directory. ==> Created in Google. ==> Created in Microsoft 365. All the steps are taking place manually, and across the division people are spending countless hours working with accounts in separate services.
Student accounts are very similar.
Soon it will look like this.
Staff account created in PowerSchool. ==> imported into active directory - automatically created in Google and Microsoft 365.
We will be reducing the accounts needed to sign into other services; be it Helpdesk, Follett (library software), Google or Microsoft to just one account. All devices will also use just your Microsoft account to sign into, be an MacBook, a Chromebook or a Windows computer (iPads currently do not use sign-in).
The timeline for this is by the end of this year, so it's fully implemented for next year. We need to make a lot of changes behind the scenes so that all of the systems talk to each other.
In the end, this change will make your life and ours a lot simpler!
Thank you,
Clint
