Becoming an Apple Teacher - it's easy and worth while!
Becoming an Apple Teacher is an easy and worth while endeavour you can do to increase your familiarity with Apple products in our schools. Best of all it's free!
Why become an Apple Teacher? To be a better teacher with technology of course.
Lakeland Catholic Schools currently has well over 300 MacBooks/iMacs and over 1400 iPads for student use. Chances are, that if you want to use an Apple product in your classroom you will have the opportunity to do so. The technology department will be placing most of the ex-teacher computers back into schools to increase the number of laptops schools have available for student use.
iPads and MacBooks have certain advantages over Chromebooks when it comes to dealing with assortment of media in your classroom and while Chromebooks can also be used to create a large variety of media, Apple products can do so while using very little bandwidth, which might be a factor in your school.
So how do you get started? First you will need an education Apple id. Surprise! All students and teachers in our division already have Apple Education Id's. If you'd like your Apple Id, then please email me or Colleen to get yours. Your students also have Apple Id's which can come in very handy when using Apple features in the classroom. Each education Apple Id also comes with 200 gigs of online storage.
Once you have your Apple id, you can open your browser and head to this web site: https://www.apple.com/ca/education/apple-teacher/
PS - we are going to be offering a cohort training for Apple Teacher later this year after we have finished the Level One Google training.

Once you arrive, you can sign into the Apple Teacher web site. You will be presented with a host of learning materials you can access in order to begin your journey towards becoming an Apple Teacher.
If you use iPads then I would suggest that you start learning about iPads first, and conversely about MacBooks if you use those. Each section will contain some information and then, once you've completed the section, you will have a brief five question quiz, which is repeatable if need be.
Once you've completed all the sections for either the iPad or the MacBook you will receive your Apple Teacher certification! You'll receive a certificate which can be framed and you can add Apple Teacher to your email signature.
Happy Learning!
